Free fishing log template

Remember the pattern, not just the fish.

A good fishing log should help you make a better decision next trip. Use this template to record the catch, the water, the bait, the conditions, and the one detail that made the bite happen.

The fields worth tracking.

Date and time

When the bite happened, not just the day.

Water

Lake, river, pond, bank, dock, creek, or rough private spot note.

Species

Bass, trout, panfish, catfish, pike, saltwater species, or unknown.

Length and weight

Record both when you can; estimate when you cannot.

Bait or lure

Name, color, size, retrieve, rig, and what changed the bite.

Cover and depth

Grass, rock, brush, docks, current, drop-offs, flats, or shade.

Weather

Wind, cloud cover, temperature, pressure trend, and water clarity.

Pattern note

The one thing you want to remember before the next trip.

Copyable template

Keep this in Notes, print it, or use it as your field checklist.

The paper version works. FishLogger exists for the moment you do not want to type on the water.
